Our client, a manufacturing company located near Montreal, QC is looking for an Instrumentation & Control Technician to join their team.
What you will do in this role:
- Install, configure, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair instrumentation and control devices, including sensors, transmitters, controllers, valves, and actuators.
- Program, troubleshoot, and maintain Allen-Bradley PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, and industrial automation systems.
- Develop, modify, test, and maintain PLC, HMI, SCADA, and industrial control applications.
- Troubleshoot electrical, electronic, instrumentation, automation, and control system faults to minimize downtime.
- Perform electrical and mechanical installations for production and automation equipment.
- Configure and troubleshoot industrial communication networks connecting PLCs, computers, and automated equipment.
- Support equipment installation, start-up, commissioning, validation, and modifications.
- Conduct preventive maintenance, inspections, testing, and calibration of instrumentation and control systems.
- Research existing systems and recommend automation, reliability, efficiency, and equipment improvements.
- Develop and maintain work orders, technical procedures, checklists, operating manuals, and equipment documentation.
- Identify critical machine components and operating points and verify equipment functionality before start-up.
- Document all programming changes, repairs, calibrations, modifications, and maintenance activities.
- Provide technical support to Production and Maintenance during breakdowns, process issues, and improvement projects.
- Support initiatives to improve safety, quality, productivity, efficiency, reliability, and manufacturing KPIs.
- Transfer technical knowledge to Electromechanics and Maintenance personnel following projects and equipment interventions.
- Train and coach employees on new or modified equipment, systems, and applications.
- Participate in continuous improvement and equipment optimization projects.
- Follow GMP, food safety, SQF, health & safety, security, and plant procedures.
- Identify and report equipment, operational, and safety risks and support corrective actions.
What you will bring to the role:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in food manufacturing, advanced control systems, programming, testing, and commissioning.
- Strong ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, pneumatics, and hydraulics.
- Proficiency with Ladder Logic and Function Block Diagrams (FBD).
- Knowledge of industrial sensors, actuators, and Ethernet/IP communication networks.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, tooling, and equipment.
- Experience with electrical instrumentation, wiring, and troubleshooting.
- Strong commitment to continuous improvement and equipment optimization.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, changing priorities, schedules, and deadlines.
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Ability and willingness to learn and implement new software and technologies.
- Bilingual French and English required.
- Autonomous, organized, and strong planning skills.
- Able to work effectively under pressure and support a 24/7 manufacturing operation with flexible hours.
